Your Words Wednesday

28 Jul

Long before I discovered the profession of coaching my background was in fine arts. Yup, I was one of those cool kids dressed in black studying painting, art history, photography and printmaking in my university years.

I still wear a lot of black and I still love art. During the 31 Days to Build a Better Blog challenge, I discovered a few amazing photographers as well as a trend called Wordless Wednesday (where a blogger posts just a photo). I’m going to adopt it here at Deva Coaching  - with a slight twist.

Instead of Wordless I’m going with…

Your Words

Every Wednesday I’ll post a photo and accompanying title with the intention that it spark a conversation or better still get your creative juices flowing. My writers’ group has done this a few times and it’s been extraordinary to hear the unique voices and stories that arise from the same image.

I’m interested in hearing your words. Part of my intention in blogging has been to engage you, get you thinking, perhaps sharing in a new way.

Beautiful image. For me it evokes calmness and a sense of quiet. It’s almost as if it is signaling the end of the day and the end of the summer season. The sun is setting on the summer as the little girl rides away on her bike. Very serene.

Reading your words adds to the calmness; thanks so much for sharing.

An interesting journey as I looked at the photo. My initial response was a journey into my childhood. I had to have a closer look at the photo and went to Mark’s site for a closer view. I remember playing football as a young boy in a field like this one. There worn down path on at the edge of the grass like in the photo. The young girl on the bike reminded me of someone’s sister riding in to remind her brother to come home for dinner.
It reminded me of fun, end of the day fatigue from hours of playing, the smell of food, being hungry and a sensation of feeling free.
The connection I’ve made is how much I truly enjoy and am in-joy at that time of day. Until this photo I’ve forgotten. Thank you Sandi.

      Michael,
I found your words moving and my senses were instantly engaged as I remembered the smell of grass, a warm summer day and the freedom of childhood.

Thanks for sharing your words my friend.

I smell the heat and the grass, a dusty green scent.
I see the slanting evening light, yellow, making everything golden and magical.

Golden and magical; a phrase that will carry me through the rest of my day. Thank you Alison.

A whole ‘nother era is what I see. Like many people my mind went back to childhood. We lived in a wooded environment growing up, and it so lends itself to adventure and discovery. This is a photo that holds onto you, too — I focused on the sunbeams before I even noticed the little girl on the bicycle. Beautiful.

    • http://www.devacoaching.com Sandi

@Leisa – I love both those words. They really are perfect for Mark’s photo.

@Daisy – I appreciate the notion of a photo holding onto you. Life is so fast paced now, and this photo encourages a slowing down so that we can begin to notice…sunbeams. Thank you.

For me it’s coming over a lip, riding through the dappled sunlight onto level ground, coming into the open where the bike seems to pedal itself…

I HOPE this reflects where I am in life but somehow I doubt it ;)

    • http://www.devacoaching.com Sandi

Remember that feeling of hands-free coasting? That’s what your thought reminded me of, and I would bet that it’s probably more present in your life than you think.

Just my Spidey senses tingling Ali!

It is a Sunday late afternoon. She is enjoying her solitude and recent earned independence. At this point she is unaware of her many blessings. She lives in a well established neighborhood where generations of families have lived. Her stomach growls indicating that it is time go home, wash her hands, set the table, and enjoy chicken dinner with the family. She knows there will be lots of laughter and chatter at the table, which she loves. Yet, will often return to her special tree of light to make the most important decissions of her life.

    • http://www.devacoaching.com Sandi

      Oh Mel,
So vivid I could almost smell her chicken dinner. Love the thought that she returns to her special tree of light. Beautiful.

I love the photo – it’s so lovely!

For me it conjures up memories of the long, lazy summer days of my childhood. Those days when I thought the summer months lasted forever, and thought everyone in the world was as happy as I was.

#31DBBB visiting. Love your blog, and am going to subscribe to your feed. Keep up the good work! Peace. ;)

Thanks for sharing your thoughts Michelle. I especially love the thought of everyone in the world being as happy as you were in your childhood. Such an innocent memory, and yet it really drew me in.

Thanks too for the kind words and feedback. It is greatly appreciated!

I know exactly where this photo was taken, and for me it evokes the many forgotten times I have walked, run or cycled through this place, where I was at those points in my life, and the many people who, for them, this place is also a part of their lives. It makes me think of how our lives can be connected to others through a place, without us ever having met.

    • http://www.devacoaching.com Sandi

      Rachel,
Love the idea of being connected to others through a place. I’ve experienced that many times and it does have an intimate kind of quality.

So interesting how pictures seem to get the most conversation out of us, especially one like this one. If you can forgive me for being nosey, I’m curious, how is the Faviell that took this fantastic shot related to you?

  • http:www.effindiets.com Karen Paritee

Wow. I doubt you’ll find anyone more observant than I am. Bet you didn’t know there’s a link to Mark Faviell Photography on your site! I’m going to take a look now. And I’ll take a guess… is he the honey you’ve mentioned?

    • http://www.devacoaching.com Sandi

You crack me up Karen! Mark is definitely my honey :-)

  • http:www.effindiets.com Karen Paritee

Or maybe I can’t be getting that right if it’s looking like Faviell might be your maiden name. Sibling, then?

I KNEW I should never have stopped dieting. This is EXACTLY the kind of problem that happens when you do. I have way too much time and energy to get up in other people’s business. My apologies.

    • http://www.devacoaching.com Sandi

No apologies necessary, but I think you may have missed your calling. Ever think of becoming a PI? LOL

Lots of great ideas I’ve discovered doing the 31 day Challenge. I like taking these ideas and making them my own somehow, so that they fit my blog and who I am. Turning “Wordless” into “Your Words” seems to have struck a chord.

Life in the country, simple and pure. Although I find the person on the right in the shorts out of place and distracting. The one on the left too.

Kinda like my laundry pile that keeps me from riding my bike in a dress after picking flowers at sunset.

I love the photo processing though…lovely, not black and white but not colored either.

OK…you will think I’m nuts but I want all the people in the photo to go away all except the chick on the bike.

I will not even go to the fact the I have five kids and a camel and seldom get much alone time, I’m not that obvious…am I?

      Ha, Kim!
Your reply made me laugh, and I’ll pass on the message to the photographer (my husband Mark). No more distracting people in the shots ;-) He’s usually pretty open to suggestions!

the image invokes subdued hope! after a day of writing i walked the path along Lake Ontario near the university i attend. my writing oftentimes involves struggles with perfectionism thus it is a slow process I’ve learned most writers deal with. a walk by the lake at the end of the day, restored hope and inspiration in my writing ability and confidence that i could reach my goal…thanks for the reminder!!
