Follow Dad on Friday the 13th

13 Aug

Ordinary People Doing Extraordinary Things

For most people, Friday the 13th is a day of suspicion and possible bad luck. But in Sicily where my mother was born, it was a day to celebrate the opposite. So it makes perfect sense that my Follow Friday spotlight is the only man participating in the 31 Days to a Better Blog challenge I’ve been part of the past month.

For a reminder of how this series came about, check out Follow You, Follow Me.

So without further adieu, I bring you Now What, Dad?

To give you an idea of why I follow NWD (a.k.a. Gabe) you need to know that he jumped into a sea of women bloggers doing the 31DBBB challenge – one man and oh, approximately 500+ women.

That means, he’s either a little insane or a lot committed, and I might be the crazy one but I find that intriguing! It’s also refreshing to hear a father’s point of view, and I think we could use more of that.

Somehow I managed to pull him away from his BBQ long enough to answer these questions.

In keeping with his quirky sense of humour, he’s offered two answers for each question:

RA – Real Answer

SA – Smartass Answer

1.  Why are you here?

RA – I always wanted to learn new techniques for blogging and through my wife found a wonderful group of ladies who were committed to the same goal.

SA – Because I didn’t take that left at Albuquerque.

2.  What is your future self calling for?

RA – To do all I can, to be there for my family and friends.

SA – For me to come bail him out of jail.

3.  How do you honour that calling?

RA – By being a good husband for my wife, a good dad for my kids, and someone my friends can count on when they need me.

SA – Against my better judgement, I go to the police station with bail money.

4.  What is both effortless and life-giving to you?

RA – Enjoying the simple things in life.

SA – Being a smartass.

5.  What do you do better than anyone else?

RA – I’m very loyal and protective.

SA – I can’t say because it’s illegal in most states.

6.  What is extraordinary about your work and/or life?

RA – How close me and my family are.

SA – This is a family show, so I don’t think I should go into detail.

7.  What is guaranteed to inspire you?

RA – The mountains my son has overcome. Two open heart surgeries and countless grave illnesses. He amazes me every day!

SA – Firing up the grill. Or maybe tickets to the game.

8.  What will your epitaph say if you’ve lived life on your terms?

RA – Friend to all! He was always there for you.

I’m going to leave you with his Real Answer for this one because it pretty much sums up why I follow him and I suspect why others do too.

He is hilarious! Thanks for sharing him. I doubt that I would have ever found him if you hadn't shone the spotlight in his direction.

Now What, Dad? is definitely our kind of guy Karen! He'll definitely keep you entertained!

Such a beautiful tribute to the best husband a girl ever had. How would I know? He's the only husband I've ever had. But I hear stories!

Thanks for sharing him with all of us Cheryl!

You forgot to add he's an OUTSTANDING flirt, and that you cannot help but smile if he sets his mind to it! That lucky @TheFunsucker. Lucky lucky.

LOL, I have no experience of his flirting! I do love how supportive he is and how committed he is to being there for others. He's kind of a "Feel Good Dad".

Hi Sandi dearest! Since you know I'm always up in your business, I've seen your back and forths with Now What Dad. It's a testament to the power of your way of #FF; now that you've introduced us to him, I'm going to go put myself on his tail. Thank goodness there are no lines on Twitter! xoK
