Ordinary People Doing Extraordinary Things

Ask Satya Colombo about his philosophy on life and work, and you get a pretty inspiring response:

“If your heart is calling you to do some great work, you’ve got to heed the call.”

Satya walks his talk and  his recent firestorm of activity is evidence of what’s possible when you follow your passion!

If you’re already following him on Twitter you may remember seeing a few tweets mentioning the Freedom Business Summit. Launched earlier this week, it is an inspiring compilation, interviews with 12 top leaders on building a life of freedom doing what you love.

Recovering from the extraordinary effort (because following your bliss sometimes takes a lot out of a fella), he took the time to answer a few questions and bask in some deva light. Enjoy his humour, trust his passion and let his message sink in.

1.  Why are you here?

Well, first off, I can’t say I really know for sure. And right now I kind of don’t want to know. I think I’ll rest in this mystery.

I also believe that I’m really just here to enjoy this life, and do what the spirit of the moment calls me to do.

But then, there’s also this glorious mission to live in 100% freedom, and do whatever it takes to get there (which I admit I’m not quite at yet). I also love red wine, and angelic harp music like I’m listening to right now as I write this. I guess that’s more of a benefit, than a mission…

So, yeah, does that answer it? (send wine)

2.  What is your future self calling for?

These are some serious questions! I like your style Sandi :)

My future self says “get over yourself – and get over here already!!!”

3.  How do you honour that calling?

You mean, how should I? Because I never said I was…! ;)

I’d really like to just get there already. The truth is, of course, I’m already there, or so Eckhart and Oprah would have us think.

Lies…all lies!!

4.  What is both effortless and life-giving to you?

I would say the most effortless and life-giving thing to me, is sitting in the ineffable bliss of silence, and savoring the deliciousness of all that is….

5.  What do you do better than anyone else?

I was going to say, irritating my girlfriend. But that’s too obvious. This one’s got me stumped…

I’m really good at reading between the lines – too good, maybe. Life then sometimes becomes an endless search for meaning in the white space, and that what is not spoken. Can make it harder to communicate ideas in a way that most people can understand.

That’s a thought, maybe I should stop trying to communicate for “most people.”

I’m also good at making really crazy balls-out decisions and putting my behind on the line (while we’re in that nether region) when it matters.

6.  What is extraordinary about your work and life?

I think my life is extraordinary in itself. I mean, the fact of life. And that I “have” it (or, rather, it has me). Isn’t that the greatest miracle?

7.  What is guaranteed to inspire you?

My teacher Ramana Maharshi, and his guru, Arunachala (a holy mountain in south India). An ever-present source of inspiration. He says,

”Who can ever find Thee? The Eye of the eye art Thou, and without eyes Thou seest, Oh Arunachala! Being the sight of the eye, even without eyes find me out Thyself. Who but Thyself can find out Thee, Oh Arunachala?”

8.  What will your epitaph say if you’ve lived life on your terms?

Satya Colombo. A man of few words. A man of many words. A man who wouldn’t sit still and let the tides of fate wash over him, but caught the winds of change in his sail, and rode them to eternity. May he continue to rock in peace.

Satya Colombo is a man on a mission to live 100% in service to freedom. For himself, and for others. His Freedom Business Summit was created to help great people (like whoever reads this blog) do the same, and just launched. He thanks you, and hopes to see you there!
